Work on Next Machine

It’s been 5 years since I posted something. Blogs going silent; It’s a common thing, isn’t it? And this blog was following that trend for a while. So what was I doing all that time? I’ll give you the short summary: kid was born, made an indie game, made another indie game, changed jobs.

So now I’m tapping on my keyboard again. Why now though? I thought it might be nice to revisit my old hobby of making useless machines. So that’s what I am doing lately; Working on the next machine.

There will of course be a standalone blog post about that next machine. Right now it’s just a work in progress. There is, however, one thing I can write about: I got a new CNC machine and I made a video about it:

“Why a video about a CNC machine upgrade?” You might wonder. Here’s why: First, I had to. I got this machine for free and part of the deal was that I make a video about it. Second, I wanted to try my hand on making an explainy-type of video for a long time. So now I finally had an excuse to pour an unreasonable amount of time into making a video where I talk about something.

Here are some pics of the CNC machine.

I took that pic while building it. It’s about the only pic I was able to take while putting it together.

Finished build.

The 500W spindle motor. This is the main reason I wanted this machine. The spindle on my old CNC machine broke and I couldn’t find a fitting 500W motor for it. So it was either upgrading or having to continue my life with a 100W spindle motor replacement. Life’s too short, right?

Emergency button. Nice to have.

The backside. Solid PCB.

I’m happy with this CNC machine. I really like the 500W spindle motor. No vibrations, just smooth spinning.
